How to Clean Acrylic Way Signage

When discussing how to clean acrylic way signage, it is important to know that more care must be taken than with regular materials like wood or glass. As acrylic easily scratches, there are steps to take and things to avoid to prevent a spoiled sign.

What to do

One of the best ways to clean your acrylic is to use soapy water with a micro-fibre cloth. Using washing up detergent will create a soapy lather, whilst the micro-fibre cloth will deal with any dirt that is sitting on the panel. In addition, the micro-fibre cloth can be used for dusting and lightly wiping any dust or finger prints from the material. Also, if possible, handle the edges of the sign rather than the face when the film is removed. This prevents scratching the face of the material when the protective film is removed and avoids any fingerprints.

What to avoid

Never use a scouring pad or anything abrasive to scrub your signs. This will leave deep scratches that you will be unable to buff out. Some small scuffs and scrapes can be buffed away. But this can effect the smooth face of the sign and the longevity of it. Also, do not use any harsh chemical cleaners that are solvent based such as bleach. These can make the material craze on the edge, this is extremely noticeable. These will also damage the surface of the material, leaving it looking discoloured and unloved.
